RESEARCH AT THE HOUSE OF THE BROTHERHOOD OF BLACKHEADS

Delving into archaeological, construction, and finishing layer studies, the Brotherhood of Blackheads buildings, spanning from the 14th to the 20th century, stand as exceptional exemplars of secular and social architecture from the 19th century. These structures are not only integral components of Tallinn’s architectural historical heritage but also serve as unique instances of Renaissance architecture within the city.

Dating back to 1531, when the Blackheads brotherhood organization acquired property at Pikk tn 26, housing a two-room merchant’s house, the buildings have evolved into distinctive symbols of Renaissance artistry. They showcase unparalleled details, making them a singular representation of Renaissance architectural prowess in Tallinn.

Recognizing the paramount importance of heritage preservation, any proposed reconstruction works must adhere to stringent conditions. Prior to greenlighting these projects, a thorough examination of the building’s valuable and structural elements is imperative. This meticulous assessment ensures not only the preservation of historical integrity but also the viability and appropriateness of the intended restoration efforts.
